Skills acquisition and generation of employment have remained a constant factor in Nigerian Government policy. The National Youth Employment and Skill Acquisition Programme was initiated by Government to promote self-dependence and self-reliance in the generation of gainful self-employment. The following study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme.
A central objective is the application of PIAAC data to conduct international comparisons on different aspects of adult learning. The primary objective is to increase the understanding of the conditions that lead to a high level of learning in the adult population, by empirically looking at the interrelationship between different modes of learning, characteristics of work organisations and institutional framework conditions in selected north European countries. The fourth project uses mainly qualitative data, whereas the first mentioned three projects use quantitative data, mainly PIAAC data.
This has radical implications for understanding activity limitation in disability. For example, older adults take longer to learn the serial order of a complex sequence but also exhibit slower, more variable and inaccurate motor performance. So is their impaired skill acquisition a cognitive or motor deficit?

Sixteen moderately and mildly retarded adults were selected from a group residential facility and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received a session interpersonal skills training program consisting of instruction in the following areas: 1 Introduction and Small Talk, 2 Asking for Help, 3 Differing with Others, and 4 Handling Criticism. The social skills instructional package included verbal instruction, modeling, role playing, feedback, contingent incentives, and homework.

Public and private NFET centres in South Africa aim to meet the training needs of adults who have been deprived of formal education with courses which foster access to opportunities for skills acquisition and employment and bring about social and economic inclusion.
