For two decades he was a household name in the gymnastic community, a star in sports medicine and a sought-after physician at Michigan State University. He treated top athletes such as Kerri Strug and Jordyn Wieber, and had a stellar reputation for sports-injury prevention and athlete rehab. He was the team doctor for U.
A woman who says disgraced gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar molested her as a child testified Friday that he turned games of hide-and-seek in the basement of his home into abuse sessions. Nassar, 53, is also charged in federal court with possession of child pornography — more than 37, images, including Go Pro video he allegedly made himself. Separately, more than 60 former patients have filed police complaints alleging that Nassar, a sports medicine doctor, molested them under the guise of pelvic procedures.
According to the paper, the organization compiled complaint dossiers on over 50 coaches and stored them in a drawer in its executive offices in Indianapolis. Those documents are sealed in a case filed by the mother of one of the victims in the massive and sprawling case, and the judge has not ruled on a motion that would make these files public. But the Star was able to go in-depth on four cases in which abuse by coaches was reported but not acted upon:.
Larissa Boyce was 10 when her coach, John Geddert, forced her legs into a split so hard she cried. He pulled her right leg up toward his torso, sending shooting pains through her groin and hamstrings, and he kept pulling. Klages, like Geddert, considered herself a dear friend of an athletic trainer named Larry Nassar and sent her gymnasts to him. When, six years later, Larissa felt ready to talk about the fact that Larry had penetrated her with his hand without warning, she approached Klages.
A Michigan doctor accused of sexually abusing dozens of patients, including an Olympic medalist, was ordered held without bond Wednesday after an FBI agent detailed some of the evidence against him, including footage that allegedly shows him abusing girls. Larry Nassar, who was a doctor for USA Gymnastics for almost 20 years, was arrested last week on federal child pornography charges. He had previously been charged with sexually abusing a young girl at his home and is named in more than 60 police complaints and three lawsuits.
In November, the doctor pleaded guilty to seven counts of criminal misconduct and confessed to using his status as a trusted physician to sexually abuse young girls. He also pleaded guilty to three other charges in another county and has been slapped with a year prison sentence for possession of child pornography, unrelated to the accusations against him from scores of gymnasts. Kyle Stephens was one of the first to do so, detailing her first sexual experience, which occurred at the age of 6 years old.
An IndyStar investigation uncovered multiple examples of children suffering the consequences, including a Georgia case in which a coach preyed on young female athletes for seven years after USA Gymnastics dismissed the first of four warnings about him. Legal experts and child advocates expressed alarm about that approach, saying the best practice is to report every allegation to authorities. Laws in every state require people to report suspected child abuse.

Larry Nassar, a family friend, exposed himself to her in a dark boiler room. From then until she was 12 years old, he would pleasure himself in front of her, rub his penis on her bare feet and put his finger in her vagina. The abuse — and their denial — left her feeling brainwashed, caused a split in her family relationship and led to crippling anxiety, she said.
