Guimaraens Vintage Ports are made in certain years when a classic Fonseca Vintage is not declared and are generally more supple and approachable when young. An excellent choice for early drinking, they nevertheless have the depth and stamina to mature in bottle. Close by, Santo Antonio has been highly rated since the classification of port vineyards and is the site of award winning work in sustainable viticulture.
The Guimaraens Vintage Port is a field blend coming in at grams per liter of residual sugar. This was a tank sample when seen, out of barrel, the final blend and awaiting bottling in a couple of weeks. It should be released by the time this article appears.

This big and vibrant port shows excellent notes of dark and ripe, cherry, plum and damson fruit notes. It is the second wine of the renowned Fonseca House and the wine is from an undeclared but very good vintage hence the more moderate price tag. The ripe fruit would match a Christmas pudding well.
