The answer might seem obvious to some. The film includes parents and their adult children, singles and couples, and people who identify as gay, straight, lesbian, trans, intersex, queer and gender nonbinary. Most fell somewhere in between, although one person ignored the scale entirely.

The machine intelligence tested in the research, which was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and first reported in the Economistwas based on a sample of more than 35, facial images that men and women publicly posted on a US dating website. The data also identified certain trends, including that gay men had narrower jaws, longer noses and larger foreheads than straight men, and that gay women had larger jaws and smaller foreheads compared to straight women. While the findings have clear limits when it comes to gender and sexuality — people of color were not included in the study, and there was no consideration of transgender or bisexual people — the implications for artificial intelligence AI are vast and alarming. More frighteningly, governments that continue to prosecute LGBT people could hypothetically use the technology to out and target populations.
Since that time, the steady march toward LGBTQ equality in the United States has largely been seen as one of the most significant cultural victories of our time, including a Supreme Court ruling in that made same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. But when it comes to workplace protections for LGBTQ employees, things have not progressed as quickly as you might think. Notably, there is no federal law that explicitly protects workers for being fired for their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Coming out of the closetoften shortened to coming outis a metaphor for LGBT people's self-disclosure of their sexual orientation or of their gender identity. The term coming out can also be used in various non-LGBT applications e. Framed and debated as a privacy issue, coming out of the closet is described and experienced variously as a psychological process or journey;  decision-making or risk-taking ; a strategy or plan; a mass or public event; a speech act and a matter of personal identity ; a rite of passage ; liberation or emancipation from oppression ; an ordeal ;  a means toward feeling gay pride instead of shame and social stigma ; or even career suicide.
It is better to try to answer than to respond with silence or evade the question. Practice different responses with colleagues, just as you practice other things that you want to learn. Figure out what you feel comfortable saying.
