Great job figuring this out. Eventually I thought hmm, lets just see if we can find another USB converter that used a Philips chip. Looks like the driver needs to be different or edited to exactly match the f5u49. If it is not windowx, the installer will complain and abort.

Hopefully should solve your problem. But theres a hitch, it killed communication with my printer. The computer doesnt even recognize that its plugged in. I trusted your site and downloaded your link and now my laptop is in the shop getting a new motherboard because of this firmware.
